Where on Earth is Maryvale?
Maryvale is on the Darling Downs, about 127 km south-west of Brisbane.
If you are driving from Brisbane you would pass through Ipswich and then head along the Cunningham Highway until you reach Cunningham’s Gap in the World heritage listed Main Range National Park, part of the Great Dividing Range.
The township of Maryvale is about ten minutes’ drive down the highway. It is surrounded by rich, fertile farmlands and soaring mountains.
The sole commercial building is the famous Crown Hotel which was constructed in 1912. It is an interesting place with an even more interesting history.
Baribun is 5 km to the south of the Hotel. Our back fence is in fact on the southern boundary of Maryvale and is 970 m above sea level.
